Is the new macOS “Liquid Glass” transparency making your screen hard to read? Are you struggling with constant Wi-Fi dropouts?
You are not alone. These are the two most common complaints we see from Mac users in 2026. At Apple Mac Man, we help users in Wiltshire, Dorset, and surrounding areas get their Macs working exactly how they want them.
1. How to Turn Off “Liquid Glass” (Transparency)
The new “Liquid Glass” UI in macOS (introduced in recent updates) adds a heavy blur and transparency effect to windows and menus. While it looks modern, many users find it distracting or hard to read.
To disable it and return to a solid, opaque interface:
- Open System Settings (Apple Menu > System Settings).
- Go to Accessibility > Display.
- Look for the toggle named “Reduce Transparency” or “Disable Liquid Glass Effect”.
- Turn it ON.
- Optional: You can also increase Display Contrast here for better legibility.
This simple change will make your windows solid again, improving readability and often speeding up older Macs!
2. Fixing Persistent Wi-Fi Drops
If your Mac connects to Wi-Fi but keeps dropping the connection, try these quick fixes before calling for help:
- Forget the Network: Go to System Settings > Wi-Fi, click the (i) next to your network, and select “Forget This Network”. Then reconnect with your password.
- Create a New Location:
- Go to Network Settings.
- Click the “…” (three dots) > Locations > Edit Locations.
- Click + to add a new location (name it “Home Fix”).
- Click Done and try connecting again. This resets the network configuration files.
- Disable “Private Wi-Fi Address” (Home only): sometimes this privacy feature confuses home routers. Toggle it off in Wi-Fi settings to test.
