This video from Within 3D printing technology company, is probably the best explanation why 3D printing is going to be such a revolution. At the moment 3D printing is described as something that could replace the cheap plastic item in your home, like the door handle or toothbrush. But the real change is going to be in design engineering, whether that be mechanical or biological. We will will be able to not only replicate organic shapes from inside out, but also learn from them and mix structures of organic with other organic structures, combined with man made structures.

Imagine a tall plastic 3D printed tree that swayed in the wind, it could have a structure inside its printed trunk that organically could pump water to the surface.Or a 60 year old man gets a 3D printed new heart, which is the same he had when he was 18 years old.
